Recognition of foreign diplomas in Serbia

RECOGNITION OF FOREIGN DIPLOMAS IN SERBIA

Have you studied and obtained your qualification abroad? Do you want to continue with your studies in the Republic of Serbia? If yes, keep reading to learn what you need to do to get your previous education documents recognised by the relevant authorities in Serbia.

One of the requirements to enrol in a study programme in Serbia is to get your previously obtained secondary or higher education degree recognised by the relevant Serbian authorities. The process of recognition of foreign education documents differs depending on the study level you are going for.

Foreign high school diplomas

If you want to enrol in a bachelor’s degree programme in Serbia, you will need to get your secondary education diploma recognised by the ENIC-NARIC Centre. This process can last up to 60 days from the day the request was received. The recognition procedure can apply to complete education (4 years of secondary education) or specific grades obtained abroad. The list of all necessary documents for the recognition of a foreign secondary school diploma is available on the website of the Qualifications Agency. Also, make sure to check out the detailed brochure that explains the whole process step by step. Once the request is submitted, you will receive proof that can be used for applying to a study programme. Naturally, the recognition process must be completed before the final enrolment. If you want to check out the list of English-taught study programmes (at all levels), have a look at pages 14-26 of the Study in Serbia catalogue.

Foreign higher education diplomas

Foreign higher education degrees should be recognised by a relevant higher education institution in Serbia. For example, if you are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Serbia and you studied your master’s abroad, you should get your master’s degree recognised by a relevant university, academy of applied studies, or college. The same applies to foreign candidates interested in studying a master’s programme in Serbia. You can find the list of all universities and colleges on the Study in Serbia website. If you already know that you will eventually want to continue your studies in Serbia, contact the relevant university/college and inquire about the diploma recognition procedure. This process usually lasts a couple of months, so make sure to plan it well in advance. This is an important step in your application since you will be asked to prove that the diploma recognition process is underway once you apply for a study programme.
