The fifth European University Games will not take place in July 2021

The 5th European University Games were originally scheduled to take place in July 2020 in Belgrade. However, the Games had to be postponed to July 2021 because of the outbreak of the coronavirus. Since the current pandemic situation regarding COVID-19 is still unfavorable, the organizers have decided that the Games cannot safely take place in the scheduled period between July 14-27, 2021. The new date of the event is not yet known.

The organizers are deliberating on organizing the fifth edition of the European University Games at a later stage this year. The event should still take place in Belgrade, Serbia. According to the organizers, the European University Sports Association (EUSA), and the Organizing Committee of the Games, the decision to cancel the Games was not easy. It was made to protect the health and well-being of the student-athletes, volunteers, spectators, and everyone else involved in the competition's organization.

As a reminder, the capital of Serbia was getting prepared to welcome approximately 1,059 teams from over 40 European countries. Students were supposed to compete in 19 sports, including 2 Paralympic sport disciplines. To learn more about the Games, visit the official webpage of the event.
