Shanghai Ranking: Serbian universities are among the best ranked universities in the world in different scientific fields
The annual world university ranking by academic subjects published by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, also known as Shanghai Ranking, is now published. In ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021, institutions are ranked in 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical, and Social Sciences. Only the best 500 universities in the world made it on to the list.
ShanghaiRanking uses several indicators to measure the performance of universities, such as the number of influential journal publications, research impact and quality, and international collaboration and international awards.
Despite such strict criteria, the University of Belgrade is highly rated in the following 12 subject fields:
- Mathematics (between the 401-500th place in the world);
- Physics (between the 201st and 300th place in the world);
- Ecology (between the 401st and 500th place in the world).
In the fields of Technical Sciences and Engineering, the University of Belgrade is highly ranked in the following subjects:
- Instruments Science & Technology (between the 201st and 300th place);
- Food Science and Food Technology (between the 51st and 75th place in the world).
Within Life Sciences, the University of Belgrade ranked highly in Agricultural Sciences (401-500) and Veterinary Sciences (201-300).
Lastly, across the field of Medical Sciences, the University of Belgrade is ranked in the following areas:
- Clinical Medicine (between the 301st and 400th place);
- Public Health (between the 151st and 200th place);
- Dentistry and Oral Sciences (between the 201st and 300th place);
- Medical Technology (between the 301st and 400th place);
- Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (between the 401st and 500th place).
Besides the University of Belgrade, the University of Novi Sad also ranked between 201st and 300th place in Food Science and Food Technology, while the Shanghai Ranking puts the University of Kragujevac in the top 300 world’s universities in Clinical Medicine.
